Arnica L. genus (Asteraceae) comprises perennial herbs native to the temperate and boreal parts of the northern hemisphere. Arnica montana is the main species. It shows different biological activities, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, and antitumor effects. The Arnica formulations are mainly used for pain management. This systematic review is aimed at summarizing the studies focusing on the use of Arnica products on pain and inflammatory signs due to traumatic injuries related to sport and surgical interventions as well as to arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. Both phytotherapeutic and homeopathic formulations are taken into account. This paper only includes manuscripts published in mainstream journals. A literature search from Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed databases has been carried out using a combination of the keywords "Arnica", "trauma", "sport", "injury", "injuries", and "pain". According to the search strategy and inclusion criteria for this study, 42 eligible papers, focusing on both Arnica alone and formulations containing a mixture of plant extracts, have been finally selected. This review critically discusses the in vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies dealing with Arnica products, reporting both positive and negative outcomes, thus providing perspectives for future research on the plant pharmacological potential.

PurposeIn this systematic review we included clinical studies from 1800 until 2020 to evaluate evidence of the effectiveness of homeopathy on physical and mental conditions in patients during oncological treatment.MethodIn February 2021 a systematic search was conducted searching five electronic databases (Embase, Cochrane, PsychInfo, CINAHL and Medline) to find studies concerning use, effectiveness and potential harm of homeopathy in cancer patients.ResultsFrom all 1352 search results, 18 studies with 2016 patients were included in this SR. The patients treated with homeopathy were mainly diagnosed with breast cancer. The therapy concepts include single and combination homeopathic remedies (used systemically or as mouth rinses) of various dilutions. Outcomes assessed were the influence on toxicity of cancer treatment (mostly hot flashes and menopausal symptoms), time to drain removal in breast cancer patients after mastectomy, survival, quality of life, global health and subjective well-being, anxiety and depression as well as safety and tolerance. The included studies reported heterogeneous results: some studies described significant differences in quality of life or toxicity of cancer treatment favouring homeopathy, whereas others did not find an effect or reported significant differences to the disadvantage of homeopathy or side effects caused by homeopathy. The majority of the studies have a low methodological quality.ConclusionsFor homeopathy, there is neither a scientifically based hypothesis of its mode of action nor conclusive evidence from clinical studies in cancer care.

Ruta graveolens L. (commonly known as ‘rue’) is an annual herb with beautiful yellow flowers. It has medicinal properties and is used to treat various ailments. It is a rich source of phytochemicals and shows antibacterial and antioxidant activity. Because of its range of medicinal properties, it is called the Cardiac plant. Ruta is being used for medicinal purposes not only in India but also abroad. Ruta is also used in the traditional systems of India like Ayurveda, Homeopathy, and Unani. It is a rich source of phytochemicals and various chemicals present in plants. It shows antimicrobial activity against microbes. Ruta graveolens L. also shows antioxidant activity. Due to overexploitation, medicinal plants are now becoming endangered. Therefore, to save the plants, Plant Tissue Culture plays a very important role. For Ruta, many protocols for plant tissue culture have also been developed to save plant as well as biodiversity.

Knee pain is the most frequently encountered complaint in clinical practice among diverse age groups. In India, osteoarthritis alone covers 25-35 % of all rheumatological conditions. That stands out as one of the common causes of misdiagnosis of all other soft tissue and ligamentous diseases of the knee joint. However, in light of common clinical manifestations like osteoarthritis, many cases go neglected and remains in the grey area of literature. Here we are reporting a case of a 65-year-old female patient who presented with knee pain, and difficulty walking, and she was previously diagnosed with osteoarthritis. However, ultrasonography (USG) revealed a cystic enlargement measuring 12.3 × 5.4mm distal to the medial-cutaneous ligament (MCL) with inflammation and local edema. Following a thorough case evaluation, the patient was prescribed Ruta graveolens 200CH, followed by Thuja occidentalis 200CH. The anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and anti-cancer properties of both these medicines have been thoroughly demonstrated via many scientific experiments. We believe the positive effect is due to their alkaloids, but we have not questioned how they maintain their qualities at such high dilutions. The Lysholm Knee Score and Tegner Activity Scale (TLSS) were used to quantify progressive improvement. Significant improvement was observed with the following remission of cystic edema and local irritation. The TLSS climbed to 78 at the end of treatment from 56 at the beginning. Despite being a rare clinical presentation of knee pain, this case report is valuable in homeopathy since it is the first attempt to analyze knee joint functionality using TLSS.
