Objectives: In Part 1 of the review of physicochemical research performed on homeopathic preparations the authors identified relevant publications of sufficient reporting quality for further in-depth analysis. In this article, the authors analyze these publications to identify any empirical evidence for specific physicochemical properties of homeopathic preparations and to identify most promising experimental techniques for future studies. Methods: After an update of the literature search up to 2018, the authors analyzed all publications in terms of individual experiments. They extracted information regarding methodological criteria such as blinding, randomization, statistics, controls, sample preparation, and replications, as well as regarding experimental design and measurement methods applied. Scores were developed to identify experimental techniques with most reliable outcomes. Results: The publications analyzed described 203 experiments. Less than 25% used blinding and/or randomization, and about one third used adequate controls to identify specific effects of homeopathic preparations. The most promising techniques used so far are nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxation, optical spectroscopy, and electrical impedance measurements. In these three areas, several sets of replicated high-quality experiments provide evidence for specific physicochemical properties of homeopathic preparations. Conclusions: The authors uncovered a number of promising experimental techniques that warrant replication to assess the reported physicochemical properties of homeopathic preparations compared with controls. They further discuss a range of experimental aspects that highlight the many factors that need to be taken into consideration when performing basic research into homeopathic potentization. For future experiments, the authors generally recommend using succussed (vigorously shaken) controls, or comparing different homeopathic preparations with each other to reliably identify any specific physicochemical properties.

Abstract Background: Oxygen saturation (SpO 2 ) is an essential component during patient care and management because a variety of acute negative consequences on specific organs and systems can result from hypoxemia. Aim and Objective: The effects of two homeopathic medicines, Coca erythroxylon 6CH and Vanadium metallicum 6CH, were explored against placebos on blood SpO 2 following a 6-min walk test (6MWT) in apparently healthy human volunteers after 3 days of intervention. Subjects and Methods: A 3-day, randomized (1:1:1), double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot trial was conducted on 60 healthy human volunteers. Participants were randomized to Coca erythroxylon ( n = 20), Vanadium metallicum ( n = 20), and identical-looking placebos ( n = 20). Blood SpO 2 % (primary), peak expiratory flow (PEF; mL), and breath holding timing (s) were measured at baseline once preintervention and postintervention and again before and after a 6MWT. Interventions were administered 4 times a day for 3 consecutive days. Group differences were estimated using a one-way analysis of variance. Significance levels were set at P < 0.05 two-tailed. Results: Statistically significant differences in pre- and postintervention mean changes were observed in blood SpO 2 % in the Coca erythroxylon group in comparison with the others ( F 2,57 = 3.815, P = 0.028); however, no such significant differences could be observed in PEF and breath holding time. No adverse events were reported. Conclusion: Coca erythroxylon significantly increased blood SpO 2 % following a 6MWT in healthy human volunteers. It is necessary to conduct definitive trials to validate the findings. Trial Registration: CTRI/2022/08/044810; UTN: U1111-1281-3263.

Background: Depressive disorders are among the leading causes of disability worldwide, significantly impacting individuals’ quality of life. Conventional treatments, including antidepressants and psychotherapy, are effective but often associated with side effects and limitations. Homeopathy, a holistic system of medicine, offers individualized treatment approaches that may provide benefits with fewer adverse effects. Objective: This retrospective study aims to evaluate the efficacy of individualized homeopathic treatment in patients diagnosed with depressive disorders. Materials and Methods: Medical records of 70 patients aged 18–60 years, diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) or Dysthymia, and treated with homeopathy for at least three months between January 2020 and December 2024 were reviewed. The Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) was used to assess depression severity before and after treatment. Statistical analysis was performed using paired t-tests. Results: The mean HDRS score significantly decreased from 24.5 ± 4.3 at baseline to 12.3 ± 3.7 after three months of homeopathic treatment (P < 0.001). Commonly prescribed remedies included Natrum muriaticum (n = 22), Ignatia amara (n = 18), Aurum metallicum (n = 16), and Sepia officinalis (n = 14). Conclusion: Individualized homoeopathic treatment was associated with significant improvement in depressive symptoms, suggesting its potential as a complementary therapy in managing depressive disorders. Further randomized controlled trials are warranted to substantiate these findings.

Abstract Background and Objectives Over the past decade, research using various methods has claimed the material nature, including nanoparticles (NPs), of high homeopathic potencies. The current study aims to verify these findings using NP tracking analysis (NTA). Methods Six independent serial dilutions of commonly used homeopathic medicines—either soluble (Gelsemium, Pyrogenium, Kalium mur) or insoluble (Cuprum, Argentum, Silicea)—were prepared according to European Pharmacopoeia standards. We compared the homeopathic dynamisations (DYNs) in pure water with their potentised controls and with simple dilutions (DIL) up to 30cH/10−60. We also tested the influence of the container (glass or PET) on the solvent controls. Results We observed the presence of particles from 20 to 300–400 nm in all DYNs, DILs and controls, except in pure unstirred water. The sizes and size distributions of NPs in high homeopathic potencies were smaller than those in controls for soluble sources and larger for insoluble sources, even above 11cH. The opposite behaviour was observed in the number of NPs. When comparing DYN and DIL, the number, size, presence of aggregates or chains and brightness of NPs increased with DYNs, which was also observed above 11cH. Many NPs scattered light of low intensity, indicating the presence of material particles. The container had a significant effect on the number and size of NPs, indicating the involvement of the atmosphere and leaching processes. Conclusion Homeopathic medicines contain NPs with specific properties, even when diluted beyond Avogadro's number. Homeopathic potentisation is not a simple dilution. The starting material, the solvent used, the type of container and the manufacturing method influence the characteristics of these NPs. The nature of these NPs is not known, but most likely they are a mixture of nanobubbles and elements from the atmosphere and container, including insoluble ones.

Abstract Background Previously we developed a test system which yielded highly significant evidence for specific effects of a Stannum metallicum 30x preparation in a multi-center replication trial. This test system is based on cress seed germination in homeopathic or control samples, CuCl2 crystallization of the cress extract, and subsequent digital textural image analysis of the resulting crystallization patterns. Objectives The current study aimed to investigate whether three novel outcome parameters could further corroborate and possibly characterize the specific effects of Stannum metallicum 30x. Methods To this end, (1) cress seedling length, (2) a second texture analysis parameter, entropy and (3) the local connected fractal dimension (LCFD) of crystallization patterns as a measure of complexity were considered. The stability of the experimental setup was monitored throughout the entire investigation with systematic negative control (SNC) experiments. Results Cress length and entropy revealed a time-modulated potency treatment effect, in the absence of a significant main treatment effect. This indicated that the effect of the potency treatment varied significantly across the different experimental days. LCFD yielded a highly significant potency treatment effect. In addition, a significant interaction of treatment with experimental day seems to indicate a modulation of this effect. No significant effects were observed in any of the evaluations of the SNC experiments, indicative of a stable experimental setup and a reliable and specific treatment effect. Neither significant nor strong correlations were found between the four parameters, indicating that they reflect different effects of Stannum metallicum 30x on the organism treated. Conclusion This quadruple characterization of the biological effects of Stannum metallicum 30x provides an unprecedented opportunity for basic homeopathy research into, among others, the presumed specificity of homeopathic preparations.

Methods Six independent serial dilutions of commonly used homeopathic medicines, either soluble (Arnica, Belladona, Gelsemium, Pyrogenium, Pyrogenium crudum, Kalium muriaticum) or insoluble (Cuprum, Argentum, Silicea), and prepared according to European Pharmacopoeia standards were pooled and used for pH measurement. We compared the homeopathic dynamisations (DYNs) in pure water with their potentized controls and with simple dilutions (DILs) up to 30cH/10−60. We also tested the influence of the container (Glass or Polyethylene terephthalate ‘PET’) on the solvent controls. Results The different manufacturing processes of the stocks (trituration required or not) influence the pH results. Stock heating process changes the pH of the entire production line. pH measurements can distinguish a dynamised production line from its dynamised solvent but not always from their simple dilution. The presence of a stock at the beginning of a homeopathic manufacturing process modifies the electrical behaviour of the solvent during all successive dilutions, even at the highest dilutions/dynamisations. The container has a significant effect on the electric field indicating the involvement of the atmosphere and leaching processes. Conclusion In homeopathic potentisations of all stocks, an electric field can be measured with specific intensities, even when diluted beyond Avogadro’s number. Homeopathic potentisation is not a simple solvent dilution. The starting material, the solvent used, the type of container and the manufacturing method influence the characteristics of these electric fields. The process of heating the stock should be avoided. The reasons for the presence of these pH values and their stability are not known, but they are most likely related to the presence of nanometric superstructures in these preparations. The role of pH in the manufacturing process and in the effects of homeopathic medicines should be further investigated.

Background: The overuse of pesticides has damaged biodiversity, raising concerns about the potential for genetic mutations in humans and other organisms caused by pesticide residues in food. The recent research has demonstrated that homoeopathic medicines can act as fertilisers for plant nourishment. Objectives: The study aimed to evaluate the antifungal activity of homoeopathic medicines in vitro and on-farm trials. Methods: The impact of homoeopathic medicines, Sulphur 30C, Ocimum basilicum 30C and Cuprum metallicum 30C, on inhibiting the mycelial growth of Alternaria solani was studied in-vitro using Agar well-diffusion assay. In an on-farm trial using Solanum lycopersicum (PKM-1 variety) seeds, homoeopathic medicines Sulphur 30C, Cuprum metallicum 30C and Ocimum basilicum 30C, along with a standard fungicide (mancozeb) and water as controls, were evaluated for their impact on plant growth, fruit production and disease resistance, specifically targeting Alternaria solani infection. Results: In this study, Ocimum basilicum 30C showed the highest mycelial growth inhibition at concentrations of 20 μL, 60 μL and 80 μL (62.15%, 62.64% and 71.14%, respectively), followed by Sulphur 30C (58.07%, 61.53% and 69.61%) and Cuprum metallicum 30C (57.33%, 60.59% and 68.45%). In the on-farm trial, the effects of Sulphur 30C, Cuprum metallicum 30C and Ocimum basilicum 30C were found to be significantly greater than that of Mancozeb (P < 0.01). Conclusion: Agro-homoeopathy is a promising alternative to chemical pesticides used in plants, thus promoting sustainable agriculture. All the homoeopathic medicines demonstrated significant antifungal effects, with Sulphur 30C showing higher inhibition against Alternaria solani, indicating its potential value in agriculture.
